Procrastination is the act of postponing, delaying, or putting off a certain task, It is sometimes a habit or intentional matter. We procrastinate because we are dealing with perfectionism, low-self esteem, or negative self believe. One vital reason for procrastination is fear of failure, a fear that if we don't perform according to everyone else's standard they are going to judge us harshly, a fear that if we fail; we might be demoted, get a pay cut, be fired, be embarrassed or lose a contract. People procrastinate because they fear the consequences of failure.
Edward Young in the mid 18th century described procrastination as the greatest thief of time- which means, you continually put things off ultimately untill you achieve little or nothing. Procrastination is a silent killer, the only way to achieve your goals is to take action immediately. Procrastination has a detrimental effect on a man's capacity and character on a journey to success because a procrastinator never wins a race, receive promotion or change the outcome of any situation, a procrastinator is always at point zero(inertia).
Many teens and youths have fallen victim of procrastination in their daily routine/activities for example, they plan to build things or go places but always manage to find a reason not to do them. Procrastination is your greatest enemy, don't let life seduce you into thinking you are busy keeping your day productive so you should postpone other task, naaah that's an error of life. Let's have a look at this lovely story composed by me.
A teen at age 19 planned on becoming a successful public figure and the richest business man before age 50, this young teen had already strategise and set a plan on how to achieve his dreams, he planned that at age 25 he would collect a loan from his uncle to start up the business he had planned. Things where going smooth not until he clocked age 25 and got a job at Dangote group and decided to postpone his 6 years back dream by 2 years, now he his 25 years old working with the Dangote group. This young youth decided to postpone collecting the loan, he had thougth he might not be successful if he starts the business because there were many buisness moguls out there who starting to compete with sounds impossible. So what's the use of failing at starting my business and loosing a dangote job? He asked himself. So his trifling shallow thinking made him go for the job and decided to postpone his dreams by 2 years. Now he his 27 years old, he has just been promoted in his working place giving him more reasons to keep working hard and earn more promotions making him to further postpone his dreams. Haha, funny right? The man now is age 55 and still working with dangote group. What was his goal at age 19? The man was age 56 when dangote group in 2016 started undergoing economic reccession causing the group to lay of staffs, the poor man was layed off, leaving him with nothing. The poor teen turn man has lived for 31 years procrastinating to get a loan and start a business, now it's to late because how do you aim to become the richest man at age 60?
From my story, we have seen how procrastination can slowly turn a teen into a man with gray hairs. So many teens and youths see opportunities and decide to procrastinate their dreams, error of life! You can conquer procrastination but, only if you dig deep within yourself to find the root cause.
