President Buhari signs law prescribing six months jail term for violators of COVID19 protocols

  The president signed the COVID19 health protection regulations 2021 in Abuja on Wednesday, January 27. The signed law provides a legal framework for the prosecution of any defaulter. The law states that an offence under these Regulations is punishable, on summary conviction, by a fine or a term of six months imprisonment or both in accordance with Section 5 of the Quarantine Act. The law adds that security agents including Personnel of the Nigeria Police Force, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Immigration Service, the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria, and other relevant Local Government, State and Federal Government agencies have been mandated to ensure the enforcement of these Regulations. Buhari Government Gives New Update on Covid-19 Lockdown

  The Federal Government has extended phase three of eased COVID-19 lockdown by one month. The Presidential Task Force (PTF) on COVID-19 announced this on Monday. Its chairman, Boss Mustapha, at the weekly briefing of the task force in Abuja said: “The PTF is improving on the International Travel Portal to minimise the challenges passengers keep encountering. “Similarly, it is reviewing the guidelines on the implementation of phase three of the eased lockdown which is due to expire today. “In view of the fact that our numbers are not abating, all extant measures prescribed in these guidelines are (subject to some modifications) extended by a period of one month with effect from Tuesday, January 26, 2020.”

  Non-teaching staff in universities will commence a nationwide strike from February 15, 2021 over the Federal Government’s handling of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System(IPPIS), sharing formula of the N40 billion earned academic allowances and non-payment of arrears of the new minimum wage. NIN registration: FG announces new deadline

  The Federal Government has extended the deadline for Nigerians to register and link their National Identification Number (NIN) to their SIM cards before February 9, 2021. This information was posted on the official Twitter handle of the NIMC. The NIMC had initially given a January 19 deadline for those with NIN and February 9 for those without NIN. The tweet reads: “All Nigerians and legal residents are advised to enroll for their national identification number (NIN) and link them before February 9th, 2021.
